- What you Need to know
COVID-19 affects different people in different ways. Most infected people will develop mild to moderate illness and recover without hospitalisation.
- 80% of people will experience mild symptoms and fully recover.
- 15% of people will experience moderate symptoms.
- 5% of people may experience severe symptoms and get very sick.
The most common symptoms are fever, coughing, sore throat, fatigue and shortness of breath.
- Wearing a face mask in public won't help to protect you from infection but it will help stop someone with symptoms from spreading it.
- Anybody can be infected. We are all at risk
- COVID-19 spreads from person to person through droplet transmission such as small pieces of saliva, sneezing and coughing.
- Droplets travel no more than a couple metres through the air.
- You can contract COVID-19 by touching objects that have COVID on its surface, then touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
- If you ahve a high temperature, new cough or have arrived from overseas, you are encouraged to stay home and isolate for 14 days.
